ZF’s SCALAR EVO Pulse receives R141 certification

ZF’s SCALAR EVO Pulse has received the R141 certification, in accordance with the UN regulation R141 governing Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) for vehicles.

To increase road safety, the EU created the General Safety Regulation (GSR), a legislative framework to make advanced safety features such as Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS) mandatory for commercial vehicles across Europe.

To fulfil the UN regulation R141, ZF’s TPMS system covering the widest range of commercial vehicles has recently been updated to be GSR-compliant, being among the first CV suppliers with a ready-to-market solution.

Now, ZF’s SCALAR EVO Pulse, our telematics device that captures the data from the tire pressure monitoring sensors and communicates it to the SCALAR cloud platform, has received R141 certification, a certification that will be mandatory from 6 July 2024 for trailer type approval across Europe.

Obtaining the R141 certification for the SCALAR EVO Pulse allows our trailer manufacturer customers to obtain their new type approvals without having to include the communication unit, in this case the SCALAR EVO Pulse, in the trailer certification and testing process. The certification already indicates that the unit is approved.

Besides simplifying the approval procedures for trailer manufacturers, this certification is an important step forward in improving road safety standards for commercial vehicles across Europe.
